Des Chia & Associates, Chartered Accountants was established in December 1995. The objective is to provide a professional and friendly approach to Accountancy, Taxation and computer services. Des Chia & Associates offers a total business solution with a strong emphasis on working with our clients to improve their performance through the use of innovative and technological techniques.

Des Chia

Principal

Des heads the team at Des Chia & Associates. Des came to New Zealand from Malaysia in 1983 to further his studies. He graduated from the University of Waikato, New Zealand with a Bachelor of Management Studies degree with Honours, with majors in Accountancy and Computer Science. He continued his interest in Computer Science with a graduate Diploma in Computer Science from the University of Waikato.
Des spent the first years of his Accountancy career with an international Accountancy Firm based in Hamilton, New Zealand, progressing to the position of Associate. He left to start his own practice, Des Chia & Associates in December 1995.
Des acts mainly in the area of Business Advisory Services, providing support for a wide range of clients. His special interest in Computer Science puts him in very good stead to provide independent Computer Systems advice.

He has an active role in systems development and is involved in programming with a variety of development tools. Outside work Des enjoys playing team sports albeit at a social level.

Jerram Clulow

Jerram is our resident computer expert. Jerram graduated from the University of Waikato, New Zealand with a Bachelor of Management Studies, majoring in Management Accountancy.
Jerram joined the staff of the same International Accountancy Practice as a Trainee Accountant after completing his degree. He spent 2 years in this role before moving into the area of Computer Services. He joined the staff of Des Chia & Associates in August 1997. He is currently seconded to a related company where he acts as the System Manager. Jerram maintains a very high interest in information technology. He is currently the Managing Director for Macrotech Limited, an associated company specialising in providing technological solutions to business problems.

Moay Wah Lee

Staff Accountant

Lee Holds a Bachelor of Business Studies specialising in Accountancy from the Massey University, Palmerston North, NZ.

Lee came to NZ in 1989 and worked with Des in the same firm. She left to return to Malaysia in 1995. Lee worked for a Japanese Manufacturing company as a Management Accountant while in Malaysia.

Lee returned to NZ in March 1999 and joined the staff of Des Chia & Associates in June 1999. Lee is involved in providing Accounting and Business Advisory services to clients.

Lee plays badminton, and is heavily involved in church activities.

Mary Seo

Staff Accountant

Mary helps out part time at Des Chia & Associates, as a Staff Accountant, with the added responsibility of ensuring the smooth running of the Administration systems of Des Chia & Associates. Mary holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree from the University of Waikato, New Zealand with majors in Computer Science and Japanese. She spent her first 8 years after graduating from University as a Technical Support Officer for a local computer company, providing systems support and installing computer systems for clients.

Outside her normal office hours, Mary enjoys gardening and reading when she finds the time.

Tim Clulow

Webmaster

Tim works as our resident webmaster. He is currently attached to an associate company, Macrotech Limited. He has a long standing background in Art and Design, and has extensive experience in various graphic design software. Tim is responsible for designing and constructing professional web sites for clients. Tim also has a strong interest in music and holds a Diploma in Audio Engineering.
